Since the last two decades it has been crowned the ‘Educational Hub’ of the state & proud of being the only city of the nation which possesses both the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

Archives present that Indore existed as a trading hub between the Deccan and Delhi in the 16th Century. The city came under the authority of the Maratha Empire on 18th May 1724, as the Maratha ruler Baji Rao Peshwa gained full control of the Malwa territory. Under British imperialism, Indore was a princely state, with the decoration of a 19 Gun Salute (21 locally) and under the domain of the Maratha Holkar Dynasty till the advent of Independence in 1947. Indore also served as the capital of Madhya Pradesh from 1950 to 1956.

We, as residents of Indore, are proud to state that Indore has been selected, from 100 Indian cities, to be developed as a “Smart City” under the Smart City Mission and also endeavoured to be a part of the Swach Bharat Abhiyaan.

Indore was ranked 25th during the first sarvekshan in 2016 and raised itself to Number 1 position in 2017. We have been prominent achievers since then and retained the 1st rank as India’s cleanest city in 2018, 2019 , 2020 , 2021 & 2022 also.

During the drastic Covid times, though facing a lot of odds, workers from the medical profession, administrative & law enforcement slaved hard to maintain public health and order. They were the true saviours and warriors in the ‘The Covid Battle’ . Now, though all is drifting to normalcy, we still maintain social distancing and other safety instructions.

Bustling with commercial and socio-cultural activities. Indore is gracefully embracing the changes and developments needed to transform it into a Smart City. It has separate systems for maintaining and providing utilities and transportation. It is a combined effort of the residents, NGO’s, our Municipality personnel and utmost The Administration.
